    ‘Will truly be missed’: Prince George’s County Police Department mourns loss of 2 retired K-9s

    PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — The Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) said its “hearts are heavy” after two retired K-9s died.

    In two posts on Facebook , PGPD announced that K-9 Stony and K-9 Budo, were both enjoying retirement when they passed away.

    K-9 Stony joined the force in 2013 and served with his partner Cpl. McKinnis, who was with the Special Operations Division Canine Section. He was 12 years old.

    K-9 Budo joined the PGPD in 2012 and served with his partner Sgt. Peters. He was almost 13 years old when he died.

    The department said during their time with the team, K-9 Stony and K-9 Budo assisted with the apprehension of criminals and recovering evidence while assuring citizens in the county were safe.

    In the Facebook posts, the department said K9- Stony and Budo were faithful, loyal partners and family members of the PGPD, Special Operations Division Canine Section and “will truly be missed.”
