    Sheriff's deputy and suspect dead after an officer-involved shooting

    Law enforcement officials confirm that a Hillsdale County Sheriff's deputy is dead after being shot during a traffic stop on Thursday.

    The traffic stop occurred in the area of Beecher Rd and Lamb Rd in Hillsdale County.

    Police say Eric Michael Fiddler shot the deputy unprompted during the traffic stop.

    The deputy was transported to the local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

    A manhunt ensued after Fiddler fled on foot.

    Officials say that around 6:05 pm, the suspect opened fire on police who returned fire, killing him.

    Michigan State Police is not releasing the officer's name at this time.
