(WIVT/WBGH) – A Tennessee-based company has been cited and fined by OSHA following the death of a worker at a Chenango County lumber yard last December.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration leveled eight violations against AW Stiles Contractors.

OSHA says a fatal fall of 23 feet by one of its employees could have been prevented. The death occurred as Stiles was installing an aluminum roof at Baillie Lumber in Smyrna.

OSHA says workers were not properly trained in fall prevention, and that fall protection systems were not properly installed.

    Stiles was fined over $83,000.
