CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD)—With thunderstorms popping up in Lowcountry counties, Storm Team 2 has issued a weather alert for Thursday, and many homes are experiencing power outages.

Thunderstorm clusters are forming, and lightning is peppering the storms. A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of Charleston County. It expires 7 p.m. Thursday. Flash flooding is possible.

National Weather Service forecasters say residents can expect torrential rainfall, lighting, possible flash flooding, and 60 m.p.h. wind gusts. Chief Meteorologist Rob Fowler says the storms are moving towards the southeast.

Fowler said the Lowcountry can expect an active storm period for at least the next two to three hours.

According to the Berkeley Electric Cooperative outage map, 526 customers are without power, mainly in Dorchester County. Dominion Energy’s map shows 315 customers without power in Colleton County and 138 in Dorchester at 5:57 p.m.

What to do if the power goes out

Avoid downed power lines and stay indoors if possible.
