Dogs have an uncanny way of understanding human emotion. They quickly pick up the slightest changes and always know what we need. Even when they encounter acquaintances, they can be just as in tune with their emotions as they are with ours.
While our logical brains might not always trust what they tell us, we soon learn we should have listened. Although it took Dad a moment to recognize what his pup was trying to say to him, thankfully, he trusted his boy’s instincts.
This heartwarming story, shared in a video on June 24, is a perfect example of why dogs are man’s best friend.
Our canine companions are always doing something to amaze us. They are loyal and loving, and their ability to sense what a human needs is genuinely remarkable. Cole’s (@ colethedeafdog ) dad explains that while they were making one of their regular visits to the Veterans’ home, his deaf dog did something a bit out of character. Instead of following his father to visit the next patient, he remained steadfast by one of his regular pal’s sides. Even when his father tried to coax him along, he was unmoved. Recognizing that something must’ve been up, Dad gave him a few more minutes with his friend. Cole calmly remained at the foot of the bed, receiving gentle pets, eventually resting his head on the man’s lap before finally turning away. After leaving, they learned this friend had had a heart attack a few days earlier. While he is, thankfully, on the road to recovery, this Pit Bull undoubtedly knew something was off and must have understood those extra minutes could help him relax and heal. His dad reports that while he may not hear, he has an extra sense of knowing when someone needs him.

The Positive Effects a Pet Can Have on Patients
Just as dogs enrich our lives, they can make a significant difference for sick or elderly patients. These visits can ease loneliness, improve mental well-being, reduce anxiety, and promote social interaction. With the right temperament and training, dogs of any age, breed, and size can become therapy dogs. The American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen Test is a great way to evaluate your dog’s suitability for this role. If your pup passes, you can offer their loving service by volunteering at a local veterans’ home, nursing home, or hospital.
