AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Sept. 1, the price of a Texas State Parks Pass is set to increase from $70 to $95, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. This is the second time the price has increased since the program was instituted in 2004.

“When the Texas State Parks Pass debuted in 2004, it cost $60. The price went up to $70 in 2011. In the 13 years since we have made many improvements to our parks. This price increase will help fund more improvements as well as ongoing maintenance,” TPWD said on social media.

With a pass, guests get a year of unlimited visits to more than 85 state parks in Texas, as well as other discounts, according to TPWD.

“We hope people take advantage of the next few months by getting their annual Texas State Parks Pass before the price increases this fall,” said Jill Kreindler, Texas State Parks’ marketing and brand manager.  “Summer is the perfect time to explore new parks and possibly have new experiences with family and friends. If you’ve always thought about investing in a park pass, this is the perfect time to do it!”

Current pass holders whose pass expires after Sept. 1 can renew early in order to get another 12 months of benefits at the $70 price, according to TPWD.
