MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. (PIX11) — More than 24 hours after the storm, Morris County, N.J. families are still dealing with power outages.

Several crews worked to restore power around Hanover Township Thursday evening, video from AIR11 showed.

PIX11 News caught up with Lisa Malleo and her family as they were getting ready to turn on their generator.

“There was a super strong wind that came through here that split the tree in half; if you can see the wires now, it just took all those wires; the branch was in the road,” Malleo said.

It happened on Parsippany Road and Washington Avenue, knocking the power out for many people in the area.

“It’s very difficult to work in the dark, and it’s hot,” said Angela Manuzzi, owner of Johnny’s Pizzeria.

She stopped by the restaurant for the second time. Due to the power outages, she had to close the business and send her employees home.

“We may have to throw some food out,” she said.

Traffic lights were out throughout the town, and police officers were directing traffic.

Malleo grew frustrated when she got an updated text message from JCP&L.

“First, they told us 4:30 p.m., now they are telling us 7 p.m. tomorrow (Friday),” said Malleo.

Christopher Hoenig, a JCP&L spokesperson, said there are hundreds of damaged locations throughout the company’s northern New Jersey service territory.

“It’s very labor intensive and time-consuming repairs that are needed to repair each of these individual outages,” Hoenig said.

Since the first outage was reported, JCP&L has restored power to 85% of its customers. However, those still impacted may have to wait until the weekend.

“We do anticipate that outages will last into tomorrow, into Saturday in some cases,” Hoenig said.
