Thousands Left Powerless as Severe Storms Sweep Through Michiana

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – This morning, as severe storms thundered across Michiana, thousands of residents found themselves in the dark. The tempestuous weather has caused widespread power outages, affecting homes and businesses across northern Indiana and southwest Michigan.

By 11 a.m., Indiana Michigan Power reported nearly 11,500 outages. In Indiana's St. Joseph County alone, over 3,600 residents are without power. In Michigan, St. Joseph County sees more than 2,400 outages, while Cass County, Van Buren County, and Berrien County each report over 1,000 power losses.

NIPSCO is grappling with nearly 3,400 outages, with Crown Point bearing the brunt of the impact with over 1,100 outages. Other affected areas in Michiana include Bourbon, Nappanee, and Bremen. Midwest Energy and Communications has also reported over 1,100 outages across southwest Michigan.
