The magic word for Biden’s debate performance is ‘old,’ not ‘cold’

Any time you have to drop excuses before a debate is even over, it is safe to say you have lost. President Joe Biden’s team seems to think that was the case Thursday night.

Before the debate was over, Biden’s team leaked that he had been dealing with a cold all week. Biden rasped his way through the 90-minute debate looking every bit of 95 years old, not the 81 he is. Democratic operatives along with MSNBC and CNN were in a state of mourning over the performance because it was clear that Biden looked far older than his already advanced age, which has always been the case.

This silly excuse-making is much like the incessant whining over the past several weeks that videos showing Biden wandering off during ceremonies were “cheapfakes” despite them being unedited. Biden’s team knows that he cannot hold up to any scrutiny in live situations, which is why he rarely does live press conferences or any unscripted events. When even an obscenely biased pundit living in her own reality, such as MSNBC’s Joy Reid, thinks you look too old, it is safe to say that everyone can see the problem.

No one is going to buy that Biden looks and sounds old because he was a little under the weather, especially after he bunkered down for a week to prep for this debate. Biden’s team could have announced this beforehand to set expectations. If you really think this isn’t a frantic attempt at damage control when they had to run to the media before the debate was even over to save face, Biden also has an “Inflation Reduction Act” to sell you.

Biden looks and sounds old because he is old, and his condition has been worsening with each passing year. He isn’t going to get any younger, and these excuses aren’t going to land with voters who have been watching him stumble through the last five years with their own eyes and ears.
