Mike Braun, other Indiana Republicans react to President Biden's debate performance

Indiana politicians reacted to the first 2024 face-off between President Joe Biden and former President Donald J. Trump on Thursday, which touched on topics ranging from immigration to golf handicaps.

U.S. Sen. Mike Braun, the Republican nominee for Indiana governor, said the debate was "a disaster" for President Biden, adding that Trump is focused and ready to take on issues like immigration and inflation. Braun said he is running for governor to bring Trump's same "America first" policies to Indiana.

Third District U.S. Rep. Jim Banks, Indiana Republicans' nominee for Braun's U.S. Senate seat, was active on X, formerly Twitter, during the debate and quickly sounded his support for Trump.

Banks also weighed in on one of the debate's more off-topic moments: While the two candidates exchanged jabs about who is the better golfer, Banks posted a screenshot from a list of best Washington, D.C., golfers, which listed Trump at 11th. He also admitted to a 40 handicap.

Second District U.S. Rep. Rudy Yakym voiced his support for Trump and his focus on illegal immigration.

Congresswoman Erin Houchin (IN-09) called the debate a "massive win" for Trump.

The Indiana Democrats were mostly quiet on social media throughout the debate, reposting a post from President Biden near the start of the debate.

The state GOP's accounts were generally more active, with several posts and reposts.
