UNDATED — The Independence Day parties start Wednesday and lasts through Saturday and serious fireworks fans will be able to get their fill every night.

The fun starts with the Salute to Cecil County Veterans at North East Town Park July 3. The gates open at 4 to enjoy music, kids games and activities, food trucks and vendor booths. The ceremony starts at 8 p.m. leading up to fireworks at 9:45.

Scott Wells, president of SCCV, said the gates are opening earlier to help the vendors.

“We used to open at 6 but this year we are opening at 4 to give the vendors a lot more time,” Wells said Thursday adding that along with the vendors there will be a variety of community resources tables on hand, focusing primarily on veterans needs and veterans services organizations.

The SCCV ceremony will include a tribute to the late Col. Hank Passi.

“He was one of the original supporters of the Salute to Cecil County Veterans,” Wells said. “We will also have a dedication of the memorial brick walk in the park.”

Exit 93 will entertain from 6 until 8, Wells said, adding they may come back to the stage when the ceremony ends and play until the fireworks begin.

If you want to see the same fireworks but at a different location, Avalon Park in Charlestown offers an alternative. Red Toad Connection will be on their stage from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. leading up to the fireworks. Charlestown officials remind all to bring chairs or blankets and bug spray is recommended.

Independence Day is officially July 4 and there are plenty of area fireworks shows to be viewed.

Bel Air starts celebrating with a breakfast in the morning, and a day full of events including a huge parade and then fireworks.

The Town of Elkton will set off its fireworks from Meadow Park at dusk on the 4th. Delaware Avenue from Whitehall Road to Howard Street will be closed to traffic before and after the light show.

On the University of Delaware’s campus, the party is also July 4 beginning at 6 p.m. with music by The Jersey Cornpickers followed by Mike Hines and The Look at 7:45. Add to that lots of other entertainment, activities, art and food. Fireworks light up the sky over the Athletic Complex at dusk. Admission to the complex is free.

At Leidos Field in Aberdeen — home of the Ironbirds — there will be a Red, White & BOOM! party with cornhole, rock climbing, axe throwing, live music and other fun from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. with a fireworks finale. Tickets in advance are $15 per person with children 3 and younger getting in free.

And it doesn’t stop on the 4th of July.

On July 5, there will be fireworks over Chesapeake City at dusk after an evening of fun in Pell Gardens sponsored by the Chesapeake City Chamber of Commerce. The fun begins at 5 p.m. with music, food and vendors.

The next evening, the fun moves to Bohemia Manor Farm in Chesapeake City with the All American Wine Fest. The Wine Fest begins at noon on July 6 and ends that day at 10 p.m. with fireworks over the water.

Although the Wednesday weather forecast calls for sunshine at temperatures in the mid to upper 80s, Wells said that, if the Salute to Cecil County Veterans fireworks happens to be postponed, there is a rain date of Nov. 11; Veterans Day.
