ROANOKE, Va. ( WFXR ) — It won’t be as hot on Friday with slim rain chances in the forecast. However, more heat and humidity are slated for the weekend with scattered showers and storms possible.

Due to more cloud cover and southeast flow, Friday will be seasonably warm with afternoon highs in the 80s. A few stray showers and storms cannot be ruled out late in the day, but many will stay mostly dry under variably cloudy skies.

A cold front will slowly approach from the west over the weekend. For Saturday, scattered showers and storms are possible, especially during the afternoon and evening. A few storms may become strong to severe, so stay weather-aware. Afternoon temperatures will be in the middle/upper 80s and lower 90s under mostly cloudy skies.

Some hit-or-miss showers and storms are anticipated on Sunday as the cold front moves through. There is still the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms in Southwest and Central Virginia. Despite the passing cold front, Sunday will be our hottest day with highs in the upper 80s and 90s. The humid air will make it feel uncomfortable and hotter.

High pressure will build in behind the passing cold front for the beginning of next week. Expect mostly dry weather for Monday and Tuesday with partly to mostly sunny skies overhead. Morning lows will be in the 50s and 60s while afternoon temperatures will reach the slightly “cooler” 80s.

The heat will ramp up by the middle of the week. For Wednesday and Thursday (Fourth of July), highs will return to the upper 80s and 90s. A few storms may develop during the Fourth of July holiday.
