In a recent interview on The Rashad Richey Morning Show , CEO of PRRI Melissa Deckman , offered insights into her upcoming book, " The Politics of Gen Z ," scheduled for release on September 3rd.
Ms. Deckman described her book as a deep dive into the values and priorities of Generation Z, emphasizing the role of factors such as gender, sexuality, race, and inclusivity in shaping their political views. She expressed optimism about Gen Z's potential to foster a more inclusive society amidst current political divisiveness.
Addressing challenges in transitioning from a two-party system to a more inclusive political agenda, Ms. Deckman highlighted Gen Z's diversity—half of whom are nonwhite—and the heightened political engagement of young women compared to their male counterparts. She noted Gen Z's use of social media and other platforms to organize around issues like gun violence, climate change, systemic racism, and sexism.
Ms. Deckman pointed out that despite historically lower political participation among younger generations, Gen Z and Millennials are expected to form a significant voting bloc in the coming decade, potentially reshaping American politics.
