Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz headline Wimbledon draw

Jannik Sinner will face Yannick Hanfmann in the first round at Wimbledon, but there is no doubt that Novak Djokovic will be rubbing his hands after landing a kind draw for the 2024 tournament.

World No 1 Sinner is the top seed at a Grand Slam for the first time in his career, but he doesn’t have the easiest of paths to a potential title run as he could face former runner-up Matteo Berrettini in the second round and the big-serving Ben Shelton in the fourth round.

If the Italian does make it to the latter stages at Wimbledon, then he is projected to meet fifth seed Daniil Medvedev – who reached the semi-final last year – in the quarter-final. Medvedev, though, will likely have to get past Grigor Dimitrov in the fourth round.

The plum clash at Wimbledon could take place in the last four with Sinner expected to meet reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz in what will be a repeat of this year’s French Open semi-final, which was won by the Spaniard.

Three-time Grand Slam winner Alcaraz was always going to face either Sinner or Djokovic in the last four after he slipped to No 3 in the ATP Rankings following his early exit from the Queen’s Club Championship last week.

Alcaraz kicks off his campaign against qualifier Mark Lajal and he could meet Frances Tiafoe in the third round and Ugo Humbert in the fourth round. If he does reach the quarter-final, then he could face either eighth-seed Casper Ruud or 12th-seed Tommy Paul.

The bottom half of the draw features seven-time champion Djokovic and he will no doubt be delighted with his path, especially with the injury cloud hanging over him.

Barely three weeks after undergoing surgery after suffering ligament damage in his right knee during the fourth round at Roland Garros, Djokovic is set to return at Wimbledon.

There are still doubts over his participation, but he will no doubt be willing to give it a go after getting a kind draw.

The 24-time Grand Slam winner faces qualifier Vit Kopriva in his opener while he will take on Alejandro Moro Canas or Jacob Fearnley in the second round.

It will get trickier from the fourth round with Holger Rune a projected opponent while he could face big server Hubert Hurkacz or ninth seed Alex de Minaur in the quarter-final.

Alexander Zverev is the highest seed after the top three and he is projected to meet Djokovic in the semi-final although the German will most likely need to beat the likes of Taylor Fritz, Andrey Rublev or Stefanos Tsitispas to make it that far.

    Projected Wimbledon quarter-finals:

    Sinner (1) vs Medvedev (5)
    Alcaraz (3) vs Ruud (8)
    Rublev (6) vs Zverev (4)
    Hurkacz (7) vs Djokovic (2)
