Fox News host Sean Hannity and several Republicans interrupted the CNN post-debate discussion in the spin room to say hello to former Fox News colleague turned CNN analyst Chris Wallace , who was sat on the panel.

Wallace famously moderated the first presidential debate in 2020 while he was anchor at Fox News and struggled to referee former President Donald Trump’s interruptions so badly that key precedents for CNN’s 2024 debate, like muted mics, were set as a result.

Following the CNN showdown on Thursday, Wallace was speaking to host Erin Burnett when a group of Republicans, including Rep. Matt Gaetz and Trump advisor Stephen Miller , walked behind the set. Hannity pointed out the panel and called out, teasing him.

During the ranging analysis, Burnett asked, “They may seize on that Chris, and say, well, another debate could turn this around. But this is a different situation, right, because this is about age?”

Wallace began to reply as a crowd moved behind him: “Age, and competence, and acuity and the ability to do the job and the ability to do the job for four and half more years… I mean, this speaks to the biggest question that people have about Joe Biden…”

“Hey Chris!” Hannity called out. “We’re all available if you want us.”

    “Hey,” Wallace replied.

Wallace remarked: “All of the Republicans are together.”

“They’re all there going together behind you,” another panelist added.

As Wallace continued to look over his shoulder, Collins, brushing over the moment, pressed on with her line of questioning: “The second debate is not until the end of September and it’s not even guaranteed that it’ll happen. I think obviously the Biden team will certainly want another crack at this. As you heard Kate Bedingfield earlier, and the vice president, saying it was a one time performance talking about what every single day looks like. I think it’s an open question for the Trump campaign and also it’s three months away. This is going to be the lasting impression in voters’ minds for at least the next three months.”
