PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — An agreement has been reached between health provider Advocare and a major insurance group in the region days before their contract was set to expire.

Advocare announced on Thursday that it reached a multi-year agreement with Horizon. In the spring, Advocare sent letters to patients informing them that if no deal is reached by June 30, its doctors would no longer be in network with Horizon.

Now that the agreement is settled, Advocare said there will be no disruptions for its patients.

Advocare has 900 providers in more than 150 care centers throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania, serving more than 800,000 patients.

In a statement, Horizon spokesperson Tom Wilson said, “Our members rely on Horizon to ensure they can access doctors they want to see at a fair and reasonable cost. It is a responsibility that we take seriously — medical costs should never prevent someone from getting the care they need and all of us in New Jersey’s healthcare system have a role to play in making it more affordable. We appreciate Advocare’s commitment to work with us to reach a fair agreement and are pleased that our members will continue to have in-network access to Advocare practices.”
