Derek Hough could ‘barely watch’ seizure in Céline Dion documentary reminiscent of wife Haley

Derek Hough has admitted to finding Celine Dion 's new documentary hard to watch .

The Dancing with the Stars judge took to Instagram on Thursday to tell fans that he and his wife Hayley Erbert had watched the Amazon Prime offering I Am: Céline Dion - and that he had found it hard to view. Derek added a video to his post of Hayley meeting Celine backstage at a show “a couple of years ago.”

He confessed that the pair “were so nervous meeting the queen,” especially as Hayley "is a diehard fan." He then detailed how he found one “very difficult scene” where Celine is seen suffering a seizure as a result of her Stiff Person Syndrome “in real time” triggering because it reminded him of Hayley's own health battle.

He wrote: “The documentary was incredibly powerful, showing Celine’s struggles with SPS but also her quirky and fun side. It was so hard to watch seeing her in pain like that. It also reminded me of Hayley’s seizure on the side of the stage a few months ago. I could barely re-watch.”

Hayley had to undergo an emergency craniectomy in December 2023 when she was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel. Weeks later she underwent a second procedure, a cranioplasty surgery, to "replace a large portion of her skull" that had to be removed during her first operation.

Hayley has since been approved for a return to dancing alongside her husband, with them having embarked on their Symphony of Dance Tour in April. Celine's heartbreaking documentary sees how showcasing how SPS has torn her life apart after it affected her ability to sing and perform for her fans.

She is seen battling to be able to sing again as she expresses her determination to one day get back on stage for her fans. Her devastating seizure scenes come after her body goes into crisis when she sings for the first time in two years leaving her overstimulated as she locks down entirely and is unable to move.

Derek took a moment on his Instagram to also wish her the best for her future plans and for returning to the stage. He said: “Celine is an absolute legend, with a unique and one in a billion voice. We’re so blessed to witness her talent in our lifetime. I pray she heals and returns to the stage she loves so much.”
