MIDDLETOWN, Pa. (WTAJ) — A cancer survivor from Lancaster County won $5 million playing the PA Lottery for her birthday.

Officials from the lottery presented a commemorative check to 7-year-old Donna Osborne, who said she had just finished radiation treatment for breast cancer and bought the ticket ahead of her birthday.

Lottery officials said she won the jackpot on a scratch-off ticket called MONOPOLY Own It All, but she almost didn’t even play.

“I was at the airport with my daughter. We were on our way to see family in Florida when the flight got delayed,” Osborne told lottery officials. “Well, it was delayed so many times, I decided to go home. My daughter stayed and flew to Florida. If I didn’t leave the airport, I would have never bought that ticket!”

Osborne said she’s a grandmother and great-grandmother who provides transportation for the Amish for a living. She told lottery officials she has no plan to retire anytime soon.

“I don’t know what I’d do with myself, I have to keep moving,” she said. “I think I’ll invest some of the prize but then go to Alaska!”

Osborne said she scratched the ticket off in the parking lot at Speedway in Leola and immediately called her daughter who made it to Florida.

“She didn’t believe me,” Osborne told officials.

The Speedway on Oregon Pike in Leola will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the ticket.

“We wish Donna the best of birthdays as we celebrate her for winning this big Scratch-Off prize,” said Secretary of Revenue Pat Browne. “Donna told us that she’s been playing the Lottery for a long time, and it’s thanks to players like her that the PA Lottery is able to not only create millionaires but also help seniors live a good life.”
