Refused have canceled a show in Sweden billed as their last festival date ever, so that frontman Dennis Lyxzén can recover from what he called “a massive heart attack.” “It’s was extremely painful and wildly scary,” he wrote on Instagram. “Thanks the the wonderful doctors and nurses at the Uppsala hospital I’m still around to fight another day. Under the circumstances I feel ok. Sore and tired and really shook up. I real really hate cancelling show but the doctor said no rock for a couple of weeks.”

Equipment was expensive and quickly outdated; studio time cost $200 an hour. But Kaytranada arrived in the era of demystified production, with advanced engineering tools and infinite audio libraries mere clicks away. In developing his signature sound, he focused less on discrete elements—his peers could replicate those anyway—than their intricate arrangement. On his 2016 breakthrough, 99.9%, the tempos, syncopation, and layering techniques were Kaytranada’s own, even when the instrumentals and melodies came from elsewhere.

Every line in her bubbly, warehouse-rave rap feels like it should be followed by a double pink heart emoji, even when she’s a little lovelorn, like on personal favorite “Fairytale Boy.” Her latest single “Charge You Up!” is just as good: a hyper, clubby dance song with sped-up vocals and lyrics that suggest she’s bored at home and dying to go explore the world. “Feel like I’m trapped in a cage, so I just go around it,” she hiccups. It would be melancholic if it didn’t sound like the audio equivalent of an Aliyah’s Interlude outfit.

According to a press release, Cook made his new track by deconstructing the original and reassembling it, keeping intact the vocal melody of the late singer Dolores O’Riordan. “When I got the stems, the first thing I did was listen to Dolores’ vocal tracks in isolation,” he explained. “Hearing those for the first time was magical; I was shocked by the intimacy and emotion in her performance. The first thing I did was to sit with the vocals on their own and rework the chords on piano. I often find that this is a great starting point with remixes as it helps you to shake off some associations that you have with the song, and this is a song which I’ve known and loved for over 30 years.”
