Owning Manhattan is Netflix ‘s latest real estate series, starring industry titan Ryan Serhant . Not only does the show captivate viewers with the mind-boggling prices millionaires are willing to spend on a two-bedroom apartment in New York City, but it also has its fair share of drama. And dare we say there hasn’t been a firing as well-deserved since Kristen Doute got booted from her waitressing gig at SUR for telling her manager to suck a dick in the third season of Vanderpump Rules .

Serhant, who is also known for starring on Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing , makes it abundantly clear from the start that he means business. The New York real estate market is cut-throat — and no one is going to be getting any handouts from him that aren’t well-earned.

With that in mind, he must also figure out how to fend off poachers from other brokerages who want to recruit his top-earning staff to their teams with shiny promises, all while dealing with internal company drama caused by his own agents.

Only one person is handed their walking papers in Owning Manhattan. Jonathan Normolle, the model-turned-real estate agent, is fired by Serhant himself in the eighth and final episode of Season 1.

Normolle causes a ruckus all season long, starting with the podcast episode in which he speaks poorly about Savannah Gowarty’s abilities as an agent — and uses Serhant’s company studio to do it. He eventually forces out a half-assed apology to Gowarty, who bravely tells him to get out of her face after he tells her she needs to learn a lesson in the whole mess.

Then, Normolle rubs agent Kayla Lee the wrong way when he comes to her high-end showing without his client. Not only is he “rude” to one of the firm’s biggest agents, but he also makes cocky remarks about the seller’s jacuzzi, which, according to him, costs less than his client’s watch.

But the straw that breaks the camel’s back is when Normolle cost Serhant a $9 million deal ($270,000 in commission) when he off-handedly tells the buyers they wouldn’t be able to afford one of the couches in the space.

Two people leave Serhant in Owning Manhattan , starting with Maggie Wu. While she gets hand-picked by Serhant to sell his $250 million listing in Central Park Tower, it isn’t enough to stop her from going to another brokerage.

“I found Maggie Wu as a solo agent and I went to her and I said, ‘If you follow my guidance, you’re gonna build a team, break $100 million in sales, and you’re gonna win awards.’ And that’s exactly what she’s done,” Serhant says in the show. “And all of a sudden she said, ‘I’m gonna leave. And I’m gonna do press. And make it public.'”

Wu later catches up with Tricia Lee for lunch, where she explains that Serhant’s favoritism played a role in her decision to leave his company.

“There are favorites. I am/was one of them. Favoritism comes with something,” she says. “I didn’t want people to associate, ‘She’s a favorite, therefore, she’s fed.’ It’s not because of Ryan. I do adore him. He’s a great mentor. But my success is my own.”

Wu isn’t the only one who leaves the agency. Savannah Gowarty toys with the idea earlier in the season, but decides to stay when Chloe Tucker Caine offers her an opportunity to work with her team. However, at the end of the final episode, we learn that Gowarty ultimately decided to accept an offer from another broker after filming ended.

Serhant might’ve lost three agents in Season 1, but there are still plenty of breadwinners working at his firm. Series stars Chloe Tucker Caine, Genesis Suero, Jade Shenker, Tricia Lee, Jessica Markowski, Jessica Taylor, Jordan Hurt, Jordan March and Nile Lundgren are still raking in the millions for Serhant.
