Can George Pickens become the next DK Metcalf? Pickens may not be the physical freak that Metcalf is, but he still knows how to ball. Since coming into the league, Pickens has been making highlight reel play after highlight reel play. He has incredible hands, excellent body control, and can make the occasional pancake block (if you know, you know). He’s a big play waiting to happen.

Although we have only seen two seasons from Pickens, there is reason to expect a solid NFL and fantasy career. Pickens got off to a quick start, having 52 receptions for 801 yards, four touchdowns, and a finish as the WR39 in his rookie season. He would follow that up with 63 receptions for 1,140 yards and five touchdowns this past season as the WR30.

Pickens was the ultimate boom/bust player. He had four weeks as a WR1 (top 12), one week as a WR2, and the other twelve weeks as a WR3 or worse. That’s what you get when Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubisky, and Mason Rudolph are tossing the pigskin.

DK Metcalf has been in a pretty comfortable situation since entering the league. If we were to compare George Pickens and DK Metcalf’s analytics from the previous season, there are a lot of similarities despite the difference in quarterback play:

Now that Kenny Pickett is gone, George Pickens is ready to break out. Russell Wilson may not be the same player we saw in Seattle, but he is still an upgrade over what Pittsburgh has had the last few seasons. For context, in the 15 games Russ played last season, he threw for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. The Steelers’ quarterback room in 17 games combined for 3,421 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

Pickens is the top target for Russell Wilson and doesn’t have a ton of competition for targets now that Dionte Johnson is in Carolina. Pickens could easily sneak into WR2 territory and even surpass Metcalf’s fantasy value now that he is the top target in Pittsburgh. Pickens has an ADP of WR29, one spot before where he finished last season. He is being drafted at his floor, which makes him a great player to buy in on.
