Need more organizational space in your kid's room but don't want to sacrifice looks or quality? Why not create your own faux built-in? If that sounds too hard, don't worry – we've got you covered! Or rather TikTok creator Andi @thesimplydistressed does! She recently turned an IKEA dresser into a fully functional and simply gorgeous built-in for her daughter's room, and the results are nothing short of fabulous.

Andi starts off with a simple IKEA dresser, one she'd already had in her home but that didn't quite fit anywhere in the room until... well until she decided to make it fit. The first step was to measure the space, then create a frame to fit beneath the dresser, giving it a bit of a lift and allowing it to sit more steadily in place. The dresser went on top and was screwed into place so nothing short of an earthquake could shift it about.

Could You Do This With Other IKEA Pieces?

Absolutely! The best part of this faux built-in is that you don't have to stick to a dresser. Kallax, Pax , and even Billy bookcases are some other great options that you could use instead. It really depends on your space and the needs of who will be using the room as well as your budget.

That done, Andi then needed to create a frame that would go above the dresser. This would help extend the organizational space and help sell the built-in look. She added new paneling all around the upper frame and the dresser to hide the fact that they were not one piece. The paneling was then mimicked with similar paneling on the dresser drawers, tying in the appearance to one another. New shelves were then added to the upper space before everything gets a fresh coat of white paint (with a few colorful extras), to blend it seamlessly.

The end result is a simply stunning faux built-in that you'd be hard-pressed to tell had not been there since the beginning. It also makes the odd nook it inhabits a truly functional space and one that will grow right along with her daughter!
