During a live stream on Friday, Konami and Metal Gear producer Noriaki Okamura stated that it would be the dream to work with original Metal Gear development staff, mentioning Hideo Kojima by name.

After separating from Konami in 2015 , it seemed the company and the former Game Director had split for the final time. But since then, tensions have cooled off enough to the point of former development team members ‘dreaming’ of his return to the Metal Gear franchise .

While Hideo Kojima still regularly talks about the franchise, Konami has been relatively silent on the Kojima front following the release of Metal Gear Solid V until this week. Longtime series producer Noriaki Okamura has stated it would be “the dream” to work with the original dev team again, mentioning Kojima by name. The live stream can be seen below in case you missed it.

During the live stream, Okamura suggested that many of the former Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater staff are currently working on the Delta remake project with help from an external studio called Virtuos. Virtuos has worked on previous titles such as Horizon Forbidden West and The Callisto Protocol , and Okamura himself has been a producer on the series since Metal Gear Acid 2 in 2006 was released.

When asked directly about the possibility of the team working with the original developers again, Okamura explained, “It’s not my place to answer on behalf of anyone outside the company or to speculate on their feelings.” He then added, “But speaking for myself, I would love nothing more than to work with Mr. Kojima and the rest of the team again. If that could happen, it would be a dream.”

Okamura then detailed scheduling conflicts, explaining, “People have moved on to new things and new commitments, so that’s just our current reality.” Kojima himself leads his production studio, is working on Death Stranding 2 , and has a new IP title called OD at Xbox, indicating that he indeed has new commitments.

Noriaki Okamura then explained, “We can’t take for granted that everyone would work with us again or allow ourselves to be completely dependent on them.” He added, “We’re working with the expectation that whatever we create, it’s up to us, and it’s on our shoulders to do a good job.”

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is scheduled to release in 2024, and fans can check out the official Konami website for more details.
