According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the July Fourth holiday is one of the most dangerous holiday’s for the country’s roadways and waterways. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) outlined some of the biggest risks.

The latest data available from 2022 showed that nearly 500 people were killed over the holiday weekend. In an effort to combat this, local law enforcement agencies will be adding an abundance of DUI checkpoints on both the roads and waterways.

According to MADD, boaters are likely to become impaired faster than automobile drivers. The latest data from the U.S. Coast Guard revealed that alcohol continues to be the top contributing factor in fatal boat crashes.
