The Chinese Taipei national collegiate team unveiled a potent offensive attack during a 9-1 victory over the summer collegiate baseball Wilson Tobs in an exhibition game Thursday, June 27, at Fleming Stadium.

The nine from Taiwan roped 12 hits, including three doubles and a grand slam, in the one-sided win. Chinese Taipei, in the United States to take on the USA Baseball national collegiate team in the International Friendship Series with games in Fayetteville, Durham, Cary and Greensboro this week, will face the Tobs’ Coastal Plain League counterparts High Point-Thomasville HiToms on Friday evening.

The Tobs scored first in the bottom of the first inning when Luke Walton ripped a one-out triple and scored on Cole Robinson’s grounder. But that would be it for the Tobs, who got two of their seven total hits in the first inning.

Chinese Taipei, which got a couple of hits off Wilson starter Reese Miller in the first inning, opened up on his replacement, Tanner Halvorson, in the second. The first three hitters reached base and right fielder B. Huang brought them in with a grand slam.

Four more runs crossed the plate in the sixth inning, three on a bases-loaded error by the Tobs.

Huang finished with two hits and five RBIs for Chinese Taipei while Mackenzie Wainwright doubled and singled for Wilson. Mike Kelly also doubled.

The Tobs return to CPL play Friday night with a trip to Holly Springs to face the Salamanders.
