The talented winger, who has shone so far for Luis de la Fuente’s side at Euro 2024, is reportedly a target for a host of Premier League sides, with Liverpool , Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all linked with the 21-year-old.
Barcelona is also said to be keen on landing the winger. Williams, who inked a new deal with Athletic back in December 2023, is reportedly available for around $56m (£45m/ €48m) thanks to a release fee clause.
But despite the interest he has attracted this summer, the Spanish international could be set to remain at the San Mames this summer.
Speaking to Radio Nacional recently, Williams said: “I've already mentioned that Athletic is my home. I recently renewed my contract and I'm really happy.”
However, the winger also admitted he had found it difficult amid the speculation surrounding his future, adding: "It's also tough to handle because everyone keeps asking about your future plans, and I'm just a 21-year-old who wants to play football."
While Liverpool would likely have no trouble meeting Williams’ release fee clause, it remains to be seen whether the winger wants to move this summer.
Athletic is arguably the most unique club in world football because they only field Basque players. Last term, they enjoyed a successful season under Ernesto Valverde, winning the Copa del Rey for the first time since 1984. They also finished fifth in La Liga.
With European football set to return to Bilbao for the first time since 2018, Williams might wish to remain in the Basque Country for at least another season.
In doing so, he would have the opportunity to continue to play alongside his older brother Inaki Williams, who himself had to deal with speculation around his future when he broke through.
Williams added: “He's [Inaki] been through it. He had his own moment years ago at Athletic with outside rumors' He knows what it's like, he knows the struggles, and he knows what needs to be done. I always listen to him and follow his advice. My brother is an amazing support for me; just talking about him makes me smile.”
