Jay Slater's best friend has shared the last promise the missing teen made to him during their final conversation before the call abruptly ended.

The 19 year old British teenager, who was in Tenerife for the three-day NRG festival, disappeared on the morning of June 17. His last known location was leaving an Airbnb where he had stayed with two British men he met at the festival - who have reportedly since returned to the UK.

Jay departed from the property, situated in the mountainous northwest region of Teno Rural Park, on Monday morning after allegedly stating he wanted to return to his hotel but missed the bus. With only one per cent battery remaining on his phone, he called his friend Lucy Law to tell her that he had "no idea" where he was and that he was thirsty, but he was embarking on the strenuous 11-hour journey back to the accommodation.

Since then, police have been extensively searching the area of his last recorded location, but he is still missing. His mother, Debbie Duncan, and other family members have traveled to the Canary Island to join the frantic search, which in recent days has been assisted by a top British detective and amateur investigators.

Jay's best friend has come forward to share the last conversation he had with the missing teenager. As the search enters its 12th day, crime journalist Isla Traquair spoke to Brad Hargreaves, one of Jay's closest friends and one of the last people to hear from him before his disappearance, reports the Mirror .

Jay was last heard from by his friends, telling them he was hours away from his accommodation with a very low phone battery. On the ITV show, Brad shared the final promise Jay made to him before their conversation ended. Tragically, Brad was one of the last people to speak to Jay before he vanished.

An emotional Brad, 19, spoke about his friend's "zest for life" and the final promise he made him. He said that Jay wasn't initially worried about finding his way back to his friends when he first got lost while on holiday in Tenerife.

During their last phone call, Jay promised Brad that he would call him back. On the show, Brad recounted: "He was on the phone and he goes: 'I've got walk and go all down that road'. He added that Jay had promised to call him back but hung up as ". He added that Jay had promised to call him back but hung up as "someone else was ringing him."

Brad also shared that, in his opinion, Jay would have avoided the route he mentioned during their phone call, suggesting that Jay would have chosen a safer path. He revealed that he heard the sound of Jay's feet sliding on rocks, indicating to him that his friend had "went off the road. "That's how I knew he went off the road because, you know when you walk on gravel, or whatever it is, you can... you know what I mean, stones."

Despite hearing his friend slip, Brad wasn't initially worried about Jay. However, since Jay's disappearance, he has become concerned that the fall might be connected to his friend's current location. "Not at the time because we were both, like, laughing about it. He said: 'look where I am'", he reassured, "he didn't seem concerned on the phone until we knew how far away he were."

"I said: 'put your location on." He said: '15 minute drive, fourteen-hour walk. ' I don't know if it's accurate or not so I said to him: 'it's only a 15-min drive, get a taxi." The search for Jay continues.
