It felt like a matter of when, not if, the Toronto Raptors were going to work out a new contract with Immanuel Quickley. On Friday morning, reports of a deal between the two sides surfaced.
According to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Toronto Raptors have agreed to a five-year, $175 million contract with Immanuel Quickley. The deal was worked out by his agent, Raymond Brothers, with the organization, making his client a cornerstone piece for the franchise.
Immanuel Quickley was acquired from the New York Knicks in the OG Anunoby blockbuster ahead of the new year. Along with RJ Barrett, the former Knicks tandem creates a new core for the Toronto Raptors to lean on moving forward with Scottie Barnes.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Barnes also worked out a massive contract with the team. He agreed to a five-year rookie supermax that could be worth up to $270 million. The franchise is confident this trio can lead them back to prominence.
While victories were hard to come by during the 2023-24 season, there was a lot to like from that group. Immanuel Quickley took the reins of an offense full-time for the first time in his career and played well.
In the 38 games he played with the Toronto Raptors, all starts, he averaged 18.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game. Extrapolated out over the course of an entire season, those would all be career-high numbers for the former first-round pick.
During his tenure with the Knicks, Immanuel Quickley was used mostly as a super sixth man. He would step into the starting lineup in a pinch when injuries occurred, but running the second unit was his main objective.
It is rare, but the trade between New York and the Toronto Raptors looks like a win for both sides. Immanuel Quickley gets his own team to run and Barrett is in a better position to flourish. Anunoby helped turn the Knicks into legitimate contenders, as they took off once he was inserted into the lineup.
