ALDI recalled muffins due to undeclared allergens.

Everyone loves ALDI, and for good reason! The discount grocer is known not just for great prices, but also for providing quality products. But even ALDI can face some issues, and they are at the center of a recent recall.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports that FGF Brands Inc. (FGF) of Toronto, Ontario, is recalling 11,830 cases of muffins made for Aldi due to undeclared allergens. If you have bought muffins recently, you will want to check your packages!

    What We Know

The muffins were packaged as "Aldi Bakeshop Chocolate Chip Muffins" and they come in a four-count. According to the FDA notice, the product may contain undeclared walnuts, creating a possible serious or life-threatening allergic reaction in those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to walnuts.

The muffins were distributed to Aldi markets nationwide. To date, no illnesses or adverse effects have been reported.

The recalled muffins are packaged in a clear 4-pack clamshell with a red product label under the brand name Bake Shop Bakery. They are marked with lot # NF1 142Y on the top and UPC on the label 4099100048278. A photo of the packaging is on the FDA’s recall page.

    What To Do

FGF initiated the recall after discovering that the muffins were packaged incorrectly. Production of the muffins has been suspended until the FDA and FGF are certain the problem has been corrected.

Consumers who purchased the recalled muffins are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Those with questions may contact the company at customercare@fgfbrands.com.

If you do not have an allergy to walnuts, you may not be impacted by this recall. However, you can still return the muffins without a receipt.

    Other Recalls

Undeclared allergens is the number one reason that foods are recalled in the U.S. There have been many recalls in recent months over this issue, including a massive recall of more than 37, 000 cases of cup noodles . Sun Noodle issued the recall of its noodles due to an undeclared allergen- in this case, eggs- that was found in its products.

The biggest concern in food recalls currently is a huge salmonella outbreak that has prompted recalls of everything from cucumbers, which have sickened hundreds of people , to millions of pounds of chocolate , seasoning to cheese, and just about everything in between. These were all recalled in the last few months, alone, and they are ongoing.
