LeBron And Bronny James Make History As The First Father And Son Tandem In NBA History

The evening of June 27th, 2024, is another memorable one for the James family. LeBron “ Bronny ” James Jr. was selected as the 55th pick by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2024 NBA Draft. In what has felt like a relief for all involved, Bronny will now walk in his father’s footsteps on the same team. This development is a manifestation of so many water cooler and sports pundit debates. And with Bronny now being drafted, we have only witnessed the beginning.

The son of the “King” being selected in the second round makes for a fairer assessment of his skill set at the moment. Due to who his father is, expectations certainly exist for the former University of Southern California guard. There’s no question this summer will be full of work for him, and come October, we’ll see what those results are.

There’s no doubt that there’s a contingent of people who think Bronny shouldn’t even be in this position. They claim that it’s only due to who his father is. I’ll tell you what: If my father played in the NBA and I had some marginal talent, I’d love to see what he could do for me, too. It’s as if Black people can’t get a hook up now and then. The facts are that Bronny has been putting in work, and if not for a severe medical setback last summer, he would be much farther along in his development.

You never hear these cries of nepotism in white circles. In fact, it’s a norm. And in truth, these people with far less talent in their fields get pushed along, all because of who they know. Now Bronny being drafted as the 55th pick I think will help quell some of that talk. Bronny won’t be on any roster “taking a spot” from someone more deserving. The oldest James sibling should relish in this moment. Thankfully, he’ll enter the league with the support of his father, who is nearby. As a young man entering this new world of fame, LeBron’s presence will be invaluable. Time will tell whether or not Bronny will have all-star potential. But as of right now, let’s give it up for a family who successfully raised their son to, of all things, become one of the newest members of the NBA!
