Melissa McCarthy put a textual spin on the classic little black dress during her appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Thursday. The Oscar-nominated actress joined Martin Short as his character Jiminy Glick. The two did several comedy bits and McCarthy opened up about her role as an investor in the Broadway musical “Suffs.”

For her late-night talk show appearance, McCarthy fashioned a little black dress with a twist courtesy of Mara Hoffman. McCarthy wore the Luna dress, which featured a midi length with ruffle appliqués on the bodice and sleeves. The dress also featured a sweetheart neckline and sculptural effect that continued through the skirt, creating a popcorn-like texture.

McCarthy also wore a pair of pointed toe slingback heels. The “Bridesmaids” and “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” Oscar nominee also accessorized with several jewelry pieces, including stacked bracelets, cocktail rings and a pair of hoop earrings.

As for the final touch to her look, McCarthy carried the Slice 3D Pizza Box Top-handle Bag by Kate Spade. For her glam, McCarthy wore her chocolate brown tresses down in soft curls, styled by Mark Townsend, that cascaded past her shoulders. Her makeup, by artist Afton Williams, featured a hint of a smokey eye and a rosy pink lip. McCarthy’s look was curated by stylist Katja Cahill, who’s worked with McCarthy on events like the Center Theatre Group Hosts CTG the Gala and more.

During her appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” McCarthy spoke with guest host Martin Short, who was in-character as his persona Jiminy Glick. While the interview was full of comedy bits and jokes, McCarthy did share her experience as an investor in the Broadway show “Suffs,” which chronicles the suffragette movement.

“It’s incredible,” McCarthy said of the musical. “It’s funny, it’s heartbreaking.” McCarthy also discussed meeting former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton while working on the show. “She’s one of the producers; she’s an investor in it. She’s really vivacious,” McCarthy said of Clinton.

McCarthy also briefly discussed working on the forthcoming season of the Hulu series “Only Murders in the Building,” which stars Short, Steve Martin and Selena Gomez. “Almost everybody was great,” McCarthy quipped.

“Only Murders in the Building” follows three strangers obsessed with true crime podcasts who live in the same New York City apartment building and set out to solve murders. The fourth season premieres on Hulu Aug. 27.
