Bay Area 4th of July events

SAN FRANCISCO ( KRON ) — The 4th of July, the day we celebrate our nation’s independence, is fast approaching. Across the Bay Area, there are events planned for the holiday next Thursday, including parades, festivals, and of course, fireworks!
Fire officials strongly advise against doing your own fireworks, in fact they are illegal across most of the Bay Area. (Watch the above video for more on that) To help you plan a safe, fun and festive 4th, we’ve put together a list of 4th of July events across the Bay Area.
Bay Area 4th of July events:
EAST BAY:
Alameda 4th of July Parade
Known as the “longest in the nation,” with a route that spans 3.3 miles, the annual Alameda 4th of July parade attracts more than 170 entries and 2,500 participants. The parade also draws over 60,000 spectators and features equestrians, dance troops, floats, antique cars, community groups, marching bands and more.
Thursday, July 4 — 10 a.m.
Parade begins on the corner of Park Street and Lincoln Avenue
The City of Antioch celebrates Independence Day in historic Rivertown with a parade beginning at 4 p.m. along West 2nd and West 3rd street. The event also includes food vendors and trucks, and live entertainment. Fireworks begin after dusk.
The Kiwanis Club of San Ramon has organized and conducted the annual Kiwanis 4th of July Parade in partnership with the Town of Danville since 1975. The parade draws between 30,000-40,000 spectators annually and this year features Grand Marshal Marcia Harmon, owner of Cottage Jewl in Danville.
The Marin County Fair is held annually over the 4th of July holiday and features five days of art, rides, concerts, fair food delights and shopping. The fair boasts an extensive list of food options with different cuisines drawn from around the world and big-name musical headliners, including Ziggy Marley and En Vogue. The fair also features a nightly fireworks display that begins at 9:30 p.m.
Stars & Stripes, Dogs & Bikes is a daytime event that features a bike parade, dog costume content, farmers market vendors, jump houses, kids activities and more. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the dog costume contest at noon.
Thursday, July 4 — 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Lucchesi Park, 320 N. McDowell Boulevard, Petaluma
This day-long day of events is free and open to the public. The 4th of July in Sausalito includes a parade, live music, food, games and fireworks that begin around 9:15 p.m.
Rose, White & Blue: San Jose’s 4th of July Parade and Festival
San Jose’s Rose, White & Blue Parade is a “historic community celebration that brings together residents, businesses, and organizations” from San Jose and the greater Bay Area. The annual parade kicks off with a car cruise followed by a festival in the afternoon.
The festival begins at 3 p.m. with fireworks starting at around 9:15 p.m. The event also features live music, a half-time show, food trucks, a fun zone, and more.
Thursday, July 4 — 3 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Almaden Lake Regional Park, 6099 Winfield Boulevard, San Jose
Santa Clara’s “ultimate 4th of July community celebration” takes place at Mission College. The family-friendly event includes a lineup of food trucks, lawn games, live entertainment, local bands and a “dazzling fireworks display” provided by Great America at 9:40 p.m.
The 53rd annual Half Moon Bay ‘Ol Fashioned 4th of July features a pancake breakfast, block party and festival on Main Street, transforming downtown into a “festive Red, White and Blue celebration.” The parade starts at noon and lasts about 90 minutes.
Shoreline Amphitheatre 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular
A “festive outdoor performance,” the 4th at the Shoreline features a program from the San Francisco Symphony conducted by Edwin Outwater accompanied by fireworks. The musical program features songs from “Wicked” along with works by artists ranging from David Bowie to Aaron Copland.
Fireworks at Fisherman’s Wharf are launched from two barges on the Bay, beginning at 9:30 p.m. One barge is located at Pier 39 with the other at Aquatic Park. Restaurants, activities and retail shops at Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39 will be open. It’s recommended that you dress warmly and leave pets at home.
