    Columbia County Summer School graduates walk the stage

    COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA. (WJBF) – Columbia County Summer School graduates received their diplomas at a commencement ceremony in the Grovetown High School gymnasium on Thursday, June 28.

    More than 40 seniors from five different schools graduated at the event.

    Graduate Victoria Eden Knight walked the stage to receive her diploma from Lakeside High School. She told WJBF Photojournalist Regynal McKie, “No one in my family has really graduated high school. I’m the first to graduate as a teenager, and it means a lot to my mom that I graduated.”

    Laronte Smith, graduating from Grovetown High School, said, “For the most part I had a lot of ‘goods.’  I have a good support system, my family to support me through high school, and my teachers motivated me to finish high school.”

    Columbia County School District’s Summer School program was held at Grovetown High School from May 30 th through June 27 th . High school students attended Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until 2:20 p.m. each school day. During Summer School , a maximum of two days of absence are allowed per class.

    The ceremony was livestreamed for those family members and friends unable to attend in person.
