Trust us, you do not want this happening to you.
If you are someone who grows their own produce, you need to watch this video. It's basically a PSA for anyone who consumes food from their backyard. This is a total nightmare situation!
Watch below as this gardener explains exactly what happened to her most recent harvest of cucumbers and how she will never skip this important step again.
TikTok user Kylie ( @kyliesgarden ) experienced a true gardening scare when she decided to try soaking her fresh veggies in some solution to make sure there weren't any critters living inside. Unfortunately, there were multiple. And not just small worms either but large ones.
After soaking some of her freshly harvested cucumbers, Kylie realized there were small green worms living inside that quickly crawled out and started floating in the water. Not just one or two, but an entire handful. U, no thanks!
Kylie made sure to clarify in her comment section that these types of worms are only from homegrown product and that grocery store produce obviously won't have these same issues.
"Just to clarify - these are from my worm infested garden, not the store," wrote Kylie. But that didn't stop her comment section from freaking out!
"Baby that is THEIR cucumber," wrote @arcticopal. "If you see holes in the cucumber then throw away," commented @sarahramkishun4. "New fear unlocked," added @leilaaleecia.
How to Soak Fresh Produce to Rid of Bugs
One easy way to ensure your fruit and veggies are pest-free is to soak them in a solution of salt water. According to the experts at Fox Pest , grab a large bowl and add one part salt to nine parts water. Let the produce soak for at least thirty minutes and you should see any bugs living inside come out.
Generally, the produce with the most hidden bugs are leafy greens, so it's important to make sure you give those a thorough cleaning, especially if they are homegrown.
