Are Sherri and Keith Papini Still Married?

Hulu’s documentary Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini explores the vanishing of Sherri Papini. Reports suggest that when Keith Papini returned from work, he discovered his wife and children were missing. Almost three weeks later, authorities found her on the side of Interstate 5 highway. Initially, everybody believed Sherri’s story of being kidnapped by two Hispanic women. However, authorities found irregularities in her statements and soon realized that Sherri faked her abduction.

After the disappearance, Sherri Papini’s now ex-husband, Keith Papini, filed a missing persons report. According to People Magazine, in 2019, authorities found that the DNA found on Sherri’s clothing didn’t only belong to a female. They continued their investigation and found that the DNA belonged to her ex-boyfriend, James Reyes. The publication reported that investigators questioned Reyes, who told them Sherri lived with him in Costa Meca, California. He also revealed that he assisted her in creating some of her injuries.

In March 2022, police apprehended Sherri Papini for faking her kidnapping and sent her to prison for 18 months. Subsequently, Keith Papini filed for divorce and requested full custody of their children. While she served her sentence in prison, the court awarded her ex-husband full custody, with visitation rights extended to Sherri.

Are Sherri and Keith Papini still together?

ABC10 News reported that Keith Papini and Sherri Papini divorced in 2023. Moreover, Keith has full custody of their children. Speaking to FOX News, Keith slammed his ex-wife and noted that she doesn’t realize the kind of pain she inflicted on everyone. He said, “To be honest, I don’t think she’s capable of seeing what she did and the lives that it affected, the ripple effect, how much pain she caused so many people.”

Keith Papini also opened up about why her wife faked her abduction, saying that “attention” might be the real cause behind it. He added, “I do believe the core thing would be attention. I think she likes it when people feel for her and look at her as a victim … at anyone’s cost.”
