Replacing Biden puts Democrats in a no-win situation

Democrat's chatter about the possibility of replacing President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee ignores that it would put the party in a lose-lose situation.

Biden’s abysmal debate performance has inspired anonymous Democratic operatives as well as liberal media pundits to call, hope, or pray that Biden will no longer be the party’s nominee in November. But, after ignoring that the Biden the nation saw Thursday night is the same Biden that has been in office for three years and trying to convince voters that Biden was always OK, they have put themselves in a no-win situation as reality starts to take hold finally.

Putting aside all of the logistics of replacing Biden, the biggest problem would be that Democrats have deprived their own voters of having any say in the primary process. The Democratic National Committee canceled all debates (which would have exposed Biden’s inability to debate and likely invited serious primary challenges). Several states canceled their Democratic primaries, keeping the few declared challengers to Biden off the ballot.

Now, try to imagine the reality where Democrats deprive their own voters of having a serious choice other than Biden, only for the party establishment to choose to replace him at the last minute with whoever they wish, all without the say of voters. What do you think the backlash looks like in that scenario?

Even better, imagine that scenario if the candidate is someone other than Vice President Kamala Harris. A white candidate such as Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) or Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg being chosen over Harris would lead to a racial revolt among both voters and the Congressional Black Caucus. Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) was Biden’s kingmaker in 2020 and helped get Harris selected. The Democratic Party’s racial obsession would eat the party’s chances alive if someone other than Harris was picked.

That means Harris would be the only possible replacement that wouldn’t tear the party apart, which is another problem in itself. Harris polls as poorly as Biden. Among independents, just 34% of people think Harris would be a good president, while 51% of people think she would not. For comparison, Biden’s approval among independents is 33%. Several months of Harris’s lack of political talent, defined by her Biden-esque ramblings and her grating lack of authenticity, would wear on voters just as much as Biden’s mental decline depresses them.

Democrats lying to themselves and the country about Biden’s mental state has put them in a no-win situation. Either they run Biden, who voters can see is clearly gone, run Harris, who has even less political talent than Biden, or choose someone else, angering voters and Democratic politicians alike. It is a lose-lose-lose situation of their own making, and, somehow, Biden may be the best of the bunch.
