Golden Retriever's Jealousy Over Sibling Getting Belly Rubs Is Such a Mood

Jealousy is a typical issue that comes up between human siblings, so it's no surprise that it can also happen when dog siblings are involved. And if we're talking about dogs who love attention, you might be in even bigger trouble — you just know they're watching you pet your other dog and are thinking, "Why are they petting him when they could be petting me?" If you have a dog who loves to be the center of attention, you probably know exactly what I'm talking about.

Try as we might to fairly divide our attention between pets, someone is going to feel left out sometime. And if they're anything like the dog in this TikTok video, they're going to be just a tad dramatic about it...

On Thursday, June 27, @goldenretrieverblu_ shared this video of Golden Retriever brothers Blu and Benny in a moment of sheer envy.

In the video, the older brother, Blu, is getting all kinds of belly rubs, which means that Benny is feeling just a bit left out. That moment when he crosses in front of the camera with that look on his face is priceless ... and also kind of relatable, even as a human. We've all felt like that before!

Plus, when you're the younger pup, you're probably used to getting more attention, so moments like this must be hard to swallow.

These two seem to have a bit of a love/hate relationship in the first place; it seems like Benny tends to pick on his big brother just a bit, according to other videos their family has shared. But then again, isn't that what little brothers are for?

    Can Dogs Get Jealous?

While Benny can't exactly tell us what he was feeling in that moment from the video, there's a good chance it truly is jealousy — and yes, dogs are capable of that emotion.

In fact, according to PetMD, the feelings that are happening when a dog is jealous are very similar to the way humans feel when they're jealous. But while we can feel jealous of someone else's vacation or bigger house, when it comes to dogs, it's more about someone else getting more attention than they are, especially when it comes from their favorite humans.

If your dog is feeling jealous, you might notice that they are whining or growling, trying to get between you and the animal you're petting, or doing tricks and being cute to direct your attention to them instead. In some cases, they might even pee — not ideal, but it happens.

Try not to feed into their behavior, and instead, try to keep things as fair as possible. When you give one dog a treat, give the other one, too; when you are petting one dog, pet the other one right after.

It's hard to be a dog when your humans are loving on another pup... but Benny will get through it!
