Need a fun idea for your bathroom? Why not make your own vanity? Okay, we know that sounds super hard and possibly pretty expensive, but the reality is it doesn't have to be!

TikTok creator Morgan Zuh recently wowed her fans when she turned a Facebook Marketplace vintage find into the perfect vanity for her bathroom, and here's how she did it.

the full process of converting a vintage dresser I found on Facebook marketplace into a functional vanity! After lots and lots of sanding, sawing, drilling and staining we have a vanity in our guest bathroom. It’s all coming together! #facebookmarketplacefinds #upcycle #diyvanity #dresservanity #bathroomremodel #diybatheoomremodel #thriftflip #diybathroomvanity #vintagedecor #thriftflip #diy #blackboardandbatten

When Morgan was going about redoing her guest bathroom , she knew she wanted to completely overhaul everything, and while that meant a paint change and some cool new wallpaper, that also meant she needed a new vanity. She spotted a gorgeous vintage dresser on Facebook marketplace and knew immediately she wanted to turn it into something similar to one she found on Etsy. Of course, the Etsy one was about five thousand dollars, and she wasn't about to spend that.

With her Facebook find in hand, Morgan got to work, first removing the pull handles, then sanding the entire thing down to its base wood. While she shares she did use stripper on some parts, it didn't seem to make a difference in the long run time-wise. Since this piece was originally used as intended, Morgan had to go back in and cut out pieces of the drawers to make room for the pipes.

She pretty much cut off the entire bottom of both upper drawers and used the wood to fix up her bottom drawers so they could actually still be used instead. She also needed to cut a hole out the back for the pipes to enter and exit through. Holes were also eventually drilled through the top (which Morgan said made her VERY nervous to do), for the drain and sink faucet.

The entire thing then got wiped down before Morgan added a layer of cherry wood colored stain , then a couple layers of polyurethane to seal everything in. Finally, the sink bowl and faucet were installed, then the dresser put in place and hooked up to the pipes.

The Importance of Sealing Your DIY Vanity

As one commenter pointed out, the biggest thing not seen in this video is to seal everything! Since this is a regular dresser transformed into a vanity, it isn't really resistant to water and leaks, so make sure you seal around the bowl and any and all pipes!

There you have it, folks! Transforming a vintage dresser into a stunning bathroom vanity might seem like a crazy job, but with a little creativity and some elbow grease, it can be done. Whether you're looking to save some money or just want to add a unique touch to your bathroom, this DIY project is definitely worth considering.
