In a new interview with the On The Road To Rock podcast with Clint Switzer, former FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH guitarist Jason Hook spoke about the blend of melody and aggression on the upcoming debut album from his band FLAT BLACK, "Dark Side Of The Brain", which will arrive on July 19 via Fearless Records. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "FLAT BLACK is all about creating a balance. I love really aggressive music and the energy that comes from that, but I'm also a fan of good melody. So it's really just trying to always work out that blend. It's impossible to satisfy everyone's palate, so you might as well just let go of that right out of the gate. And what I tried to do is I wanted to make songs that I like. I have the freedom now. It's just, like, if I like it, it gets used. If I don't like it, we don't use it. It was really important for me to satisfy my own heart. And so there is that variety. I like really aggressive stuff, but I don't think you can… I think the balance has to be there. If it's just too brutal, then you're shutting off people that like not that."

Few bands have the kind of progressive death metal intuition that WHITE STONES are packing. Formed by OPETH bassist Martin Mendez just over five years ago, the Barcelona-based quintet have already released two well-received and intriguing studio records. The spirit of his other band was undeniably present and discernible throughout both, but by the time WHITE STONES released "Dancing Into Oblivion" in 2021, they seemed to have already outgrown any need to directly emulate the Swedish titans. Instead, Mendez's band started to get weird and experimental, albeit still within a framework of prog-inclined heaviness.

In a new interview with Jonathan Clarke, host of "Out Of The Box" on Q104.3, New York's classic rock station, BLACK SABBATH bassist Geezer Butler reflected on the band's "The End" final tour, which concluded in February 2017 in SABBATH's original hometown of Birmingham, England. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "It was great. I mean, we knew that physically it was becoming a hard, especially [since SABBATH guitarist] Tony [Iommi] had cancer at the time and he just said, 'I think I've got one more tour left in me and that's it. That's all I can do.' And so we put that two together as the final thing. We all would have loved to have Bill [Ward, original SABBATH drummer] with us, but Bill's a proud guy. He's had heart problems and everything. And we said, 'Well, just come out and do, like, three songs or something,' and he said, 'No. I either do the whole thing or I'm not doing any of it.' And so, fair enough. And so we just carried on to the end, and that was it."
