WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — While it is nearly impossible to avoid being connected to the worldwide web, here are several tips for consumers that will bring down the monthly internet bill.

The price to stay connected online can creep up anywhere from tens to hundreds of dollars, according to a myriad of plan estimates online.

The federal Affordable Connectivity Program ran out of Congress-backed money at the start of June; previously granting up to $30 every month for people’s internet bills.

“This program has made a huge difference,” said Sen. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) when Congressional leaders were debating if the program’s funding should continue earlier this year.

Monthly internet payments range from $20 to $300 but the average price for internet is around $65 per month, according to Forbes .

Among factors to consider for lowering your internet plan costs, CNET suggests consumers consider buying your own modem and router in order to avoid being charged by the companies to rent them.

Consider paying less for slower download speeds, switch providers and some may offer discounts for new customers throughout the first year.

A mapping tool from the Federal Communications Commission can help consumers identify what service providers are available at their homes.

While consumers review current service plans, financial advisors suggest taking a more wide-reaching review to help with other bills.

“Look at your finances. Figure out, ‘hey, what’s something that I’m spending money on that isn’t really delivering much value or benefit to my life, I’m just kind of doing it?,” said Joel Cundick, a financial adviser with Savant Wealth Management. “What video services you’re paying for, what apps are charging a monthly fee?”

Large carriers offer discounts for people receiving certain government benefits including SNAP, the National School Lunch Program as well as those who meet certain income requirements. Xfinity , Verizon and AT& T are among companies with similar offers.
