Trump Hails CNN and ‘Very Professional’ Jake Tapper and Dana Bash: ‘They Treated Me Very Fairly’

Former President Donald Trump praised CNN’s Jake Tapper and Dana Bash for their moderation of Thursday’s debate.

Tapper and Bash asked Trump and President Joe Biden questions for 90 minutes, during which time Trump uttered some 30 falsehoods and Biden repeatedly tripped over his words and at one point declared, “We finally beat Medicare.”

Biden’s stumbles were the story of the night, as even MSNBC hosts openly discussed replacing him on the ticket. However, some liberals were critical of the moderators, who did not fact-check the candidates. Meanwhile, conservatives praised the duo. That included Trump, who spoke at a rally in Virginia on Friday.

“Remember the guy from CNN?” Trump said, referring to Tapper. “Although, I shouldn’t knock CNN because I actually thought they treated me very fairly last night.”

    The audience applauded.

“Very professional, both of them,” he continued. “Jake and Dana, they treated us very fairly. They abused me for years, but last night– right? What happened? They treated me very fairly. I think it’s great. I think it was great for them. It was great for CNN. But I thought they were very fair.”

The debate drew 51 million viewers and was the most watched program in the history of CNN. That figure, however, was markedly lower than the first presidential debate in previous cycles. In 2020, the first Biden-Trump debate notched 73 million viewers, while the first debate between Trump and Hillary Clinton in 2016 drew a whopping 84 million viewers.
