BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio (WTRF) — The Belmont County Sheriff’s Office hosted active shooter training all week at Union Local High School.

All officers in every police department in the county were invited.

They used the halls and classrooms as backdrops for what to do in case of a real school shooting.

We invited all the law enforcement in Belmont County to attend. What we want to accomplish is getting us all on the same page in case there’s an active shooter situation, be it at a school or anywhere, so we all know how to move together and what we’re expected to do.”

Chief James Zusack, Belmont County Sheriff’s Office

We try to use different school districts, and every school district in Belmont County has been more than welcoming and has allowed us to use their facilities. Every year, it gives all the officers chances to learn a different school and become accustomed to it, and that way, they become more familiar if, for some reason, they would need to come here and do business.”

Lt. Glenn Moore, Belmont County Sheriff’s Office

They do the training every year, but they said they hope to start doing it more frequently.
