SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — The last major race in the June 25 Utah Primary is going down to the wire, as officials are reporting only 382 votes statewide separate candidates Colby Jenkins and Celeste Maloy, according to the Associated Press and unofficial preliminary results from the Lt. Governor’s Office.

June 25, 2024, Utah Primary Election real-time results

While The Associated Press called projected winners in most of Utah’s federal races at this point — including U.S. Senate and Dists. 1 and 3 for the U.S. House, the Dist. 2 race remains the only one with a question mark as votes continue to be counted in Washington, Iron, Sevier, and Salt Lake counties.

Election results will not become official until statewide canvassing is completed on July 22.

Maloy is fighting to keep her job as the incumbent in the race. If she were to win, she would serve her first full term in the U.S. House after serving the unexpired term of her former boss, Rep. Chris Stewart, after he resigned from office in 2023.

Jenkins actually received the party’s nomination over Maloy in April with 56% of the delegates’ votes. Maloy remained on the primary ballot due to her collection of signatures.

According to the Associated Press, Maloy is leading voters in Salt Lake County, while Jenkins is leading in Washington County, the two largest remaining counties still tallying votes. The closeness of the count, along with those two strongholds, has made the race impossible to call.

Who is running for office in Utah for the Nov. 5 general election?

The winner of the primary will face Democrat nominee Nathaniel Woodward, as well as the Constitution Party’s Cassie Easley and unaffiliated candidate Tyler Murset in the Nov. 5 general election.
