Robert Zemeckis’ upcoming movie will showcase generations of life, spanning a century. However, all the sequences will be shot in a single location without moving the camera from its place, not even changing its angle.
In short, the movie will be shot from one fixed point of view; the camera will not zoom or budge.
Titled Here, the movie stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright. The 104-minute story, which will debut in theaters on November 15, is based on a 2014 graphic novel by Richard McGuire.
De-aging techniques used
De-aging techniques are also be used to show changes in the appearance of leading characters, starting from their early days to their elderly years.
Scripted by Zemeckis and “Forrest Gump” scribe Eric Roth, the movie showcases the century-long story of a single house and all the different people who lived there.
Hanks leads as Vietnam-generation teen Richard, while Wright plays his girlfriend and eventual wife Margaret. Through makeup and de-aging technology, the pair starts the film as teenagers and are well into their 80s by the end, reported Variety .
No camera movement
Despite the lack of movement, there’s a lot of effort put behind the camera. The movie also includes a sequence back to the prehistoric ages, which is expected to be part of opening montage.
The movie reunites the director, writer and stars of Forrest Gump. The story about multiple families and a special place they inhabit is claimed to showcase the most relatable of human experiences.
The movie will be presented in the style of McGuire’s acclaimed graphic novel. In the movie, Tom Hanks and Robin Wright star in a tale of love, loss, laughter and life.
The teaser begins by telling a story of a time when dinosaurs roamed, centuries later a forest full of deer roamed, and even longer when people dressed in colonial clothing walked hand in hand. Finally, the love story between Hanks and Wright’s characters is told as they move into what would become their family home.
AI-driven tool used
This film is claimed to bring tears to your eyes as it tugs at the nostalgic threads and gives many people something to identify with as they imagine what happened on the floor where their living room now stands.
The generative AI-driven tool Metaphysic Live is reportedly used in the movie to de-age Hanks and Wright. In the recently released trailer, the AI de-aging can be convincing for some, but it’s being used at a time when AI’s use in entertainment could bring some criticism.
“With Here, the film simply wouldn’t work without our actors seamlessly transforming into younger versions of themselves,” Zemeckis said earlier.
