Virginia diners may soon be able to savor one of Florida’s favorite sweet treats. The Salty Donut, known for its delicious, small-batch donuts, is making moves towards opening its first DMV area location in Fairfax County, reports the Washington Business Journal .

The Salty, as it is referred to by its myriad fans, has filed paperwork to develop a shop at 2905 District Avenue, Suite 180. The permits show that the company is hoping to take over and build out the space formerly occupied by Loyal Companion pet grooming and food shop in the Mosaic District. The completed store will provide The Salty with 3,210 square feet to craft and serve its donuts.

Permits and plans are still under county review, making it impossible to predict an opening timeline.

Husband-and-wife duo Andy Rodriguez and Amanda Pizarro-Rodriguez founded The Salty in 2014. The concept started out humbly enough in a vintage Aljoa camper, before moving into a brick and mortar in Wynwood, Florida. The Salty is intent on spreading its high-quality donuts to hungry prospective customers; the brand is in the heart of an expansion push.

The Salty’s impressive selection of donuts ranges from well-loved favorites like traditional glazed to unusual concoctions like blueberry crumb cake.
