Kinzinger Shuts Down Dunk Attempt by Ex-Trump Adviser Who Mocked Biden Endorsement: You’re ‘Supporting a Man Who’s a Habitual Liar’

Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) rejected a dunk attempt by former Donald Trump campaign adviser David Urban , who needled the ex-lawmaker for endorsing President Joe Biden this week.

Biden turned in an objectively terrible debate performance that overshadowed the many lies that Trump told during Thursday’s debate on CNN, as well as the fact that the president landed a solid blow about the former president being a convicted felon.

Kinzinger endorsed Biden the day before the debate, which Urban gleefully noted on Friday’s AC360 on CNN.

“You just endorsed President Biden the day before the debate,” Anderson Cooper said to Kinzinger before Urban interrupted.

“How’s that going for you?” Urban asked.

“I’m just wondering, any regrets about that?” Cooper said.

Urban’s remark appeared to irk the former congressman.

“No,” Kinzinger said. “And you know what? David. No. David, listen, man. You know what I’m proud of? I’m proud that I’m not standing here sitting on a stage supporting a man who’s a habitual liar who couldn’t tell the truth, who pretended like the January 6 committee deleted all evidence and it’s on the frickin’ internet.”

During the debate, Trump misleadingly claimed that the House Jan. 6 select committee on which Kinzinger served destroyed evidence related to the former president’s actions regarding the Capitol riot.

While Kinzinger conceded Biden had a poor debate, he said endorsing the president over Trump is a no-brainer.

“But the thing I am so proud of not having to do is to defend a man who could not tell the truth last
night,” he said.

“But do you wish you had endorsed somebody else?” Urban shot back.

“No!” Kinzinger replied. “I’m proud of standing against the habitual liar who lies about everything from January 6th to his golf game , that he wins club championships, that he’s never lost. That makes me proud. Democrats have a lot of thinking to do in terms of how to right this ship. But you have to prosecute the case against Donald Trump.”

The former congressman said that he regretted that Biden “wasn’t able to” push back on Trump’s lies. Elsewhere during the show, Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) ripped CNN moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash for not fact-checking Trump.
