MCSO arrests man attempting to meet with 8-year-old girl for ‘nefarious purposes’

MUSCOGEE COUNTY, Ga. ( WRBL ) – The Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office said a man was arrested after attempting to meet with a female child in Muscogee County and says they “won’t stop until this deplorable criminal behavior stops.”

The sheriff’s office sex offender task force and the special operations unit arrested Royce Smith who MCSO said tried to meet up with an 8-year-old girl. Undercover investigators posed as the minor and chatted with Smith over the phone and the internet.

MCSO said Smith arranged to meet with the little girl for “nefarious purposes,” and investigators arrested him.

Law enforcement took Smith to the Muscogee County Jail and charged him with:

Felony enticing a child for indecent purposes
Felony possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime
