VAN BUREN COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — First responders rescued a hiker at Fall Creek Falls State Park Tuesday, marking the second rescue performed at the state park in a week.

The Piney Volunteer Fire Department said they were called to the state park around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 25 to respond to a report about a man who had fallen near the plunge pool at the base of a trail.

Crews said due to the low availability of volunteers, personnel from several departments were called to the scene to assist with carrying the patient back up the trail.

According to officials, the carry out process was strenuous as crews endured 90+ temperatures, high humidity, and had to take a quarter mile trail that includes 300+ feet of elevation.

Water and Gatorades were provided to those who assisted with the rescue, said the Piney Volunteer Fire Department.

The male patient was taken to a local hospital after crews carried him to the top of the trail, which reportedly took an hour to reach.

State park rangers and staff, Van Buren County EMS, Piney Volunteer Fire Department, and Fall Creek Falls Fire Department all responded to the scene to assist with the rescue and provide treatment.

This comes just days after several departments teamed up to rescue an injured hiker at the base of Cane Creek Falls in the Cable Trail area. Crews allegedly found the hiker in the water suffering from a hip injury.
