The Stanly County budget passed by commissioners for the upcoming fiscal year does not include a property tax increase.

Stanly’s tax rate will continue to be 61 cents per $100 of value.

General fund expenses were set at $96.89 million, with education receiving the largest budget at $28 million, which includes Stanly County Schools and Stanly Community College. The entire budget is more than $10 million more from last year’s budget ($86.5 million).

SCS is receiving an additional $1.5 million in funds, including $500,000 earmarked for teacher supplements, and an additional $3.7 million for the Endy classroom expansion.

One increase in funding from the county is $331,980 towards the new SCC trades facility and the college’s general operating fund.

Another major investment for the county is $860,000 to build a larger waste convenience site in the southwestern part of the county on Webb Road.

Other enhancements include replacement of the courthouse camera system ($118,000), two additional deputy positions with the Sheriff’s Office ($144,000) and replacement of the courthouse roof ($152,000).

In the approved budget, an increase of $370,356 will be for additional child protective services and foster care personnel, and an additional $85,000 will be for salary incentives for law enforcement officers and paramedics.
