TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting after one man was killed and another was injured early Saturday morning.

According to TCSO, officers arrived to the 2000 block of Stardust Drive around 3:14 a.m. on reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found two adult men shot. A 23-year-old male was found shot and suffering non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported by ambulance for treatment and is in stable condition.

Authorities pronounced Reggie Coverson, 51, of Tuscaloosa, dead on the scene. Deputies were later advised by a 36-year-old male who was on the scene that he shot Coverson. He was taken to the Violent Crimes Unit and interviewed by investigators.

After all parties involved were interviewed, it was determined that the incident stemmed from a verbal argument between the involved parties. TCSO says Coverson appeared to be the aggressor in the incident and was shot in self-defense. No charges have been filed at this time. Officers say evidence showed that Coverson shot the 23-year-old victim and was then shot by the 36-year-old male on scene.
